Yangon

This will probably be your first stop if you are arriving by plane.

Ma Hla Hla, the proprietor of the Three Seasons Hotel will give you the warmest of welcomes and make your stay a great pleasure.  She will negotiate all local travel:  rickshaw, taxi and car, and make onward bookings, including a day trip to  St Mary's Children’s Home in Kyauktan.  The hotel driver, Mr Win, is knowledgeable and most helpful.  Ma Hla Hla will also help with telephone calls – even a local call is a supreme and lengthy struggle.

Garlands of frangipane giving off their divine scent are hung in each room every day and a delicious breakfast is served in the dining room –the scrambled eggs are excellent, and the traditional mohinga fish soup can be ordered the night before.  Beer to drink on the balcony in the evenings can be brought in, and enjoyed as you watch the street life below.

Places marked on the Yangon Downtown map are all within walking distance from the hotel.  The Strand Hotel serves the best rum sours in town.  The Catholic Cathedral and the station are interesting pieces of colonial architecture.  J’s Irrawaddy Dream, near the Pansea Hotel which has a swimming pool, is a wonderful boutique and bistro set in a cool green garden.  A must!  Introduce yourself to Juliana.

From Yangon you can fly or take the train to Mandalay in order to take the day long ferry trip down the irrawaddy to Pagan.  An interesting trip, but rather long.  A delightful short trip down the Irrawaddy into the sunset can be arranget in a small boat from Bagan.

 Mandalay

The Golden Mandalay Hotel will send a car to meet you at the airport which is a long way from the city.  The hotel consists of bungalows, lovingly decorated in gold and set in a garden by a lake.  Breakfast is served on a deck over the lake.  U Ko Ko, the proprietor, will arrange for his driver Ko Zaw Gyi to take you by tuk-tuk to the wooden monasteries nearby, or a day trip to the Mahamuni Pagoda and on to the U Bein bridge.  A boat trip to Mingun can also be arranged and ferry boat transport to Bagan if you so wish. There the wonderful Sister Thwe Thwe Aye is in charge of the Buddhist clinic and hospice.  Take her any medical products such as plasters, disinfectant etc. you might no longer require.

Ask them to get  Mg Han Tint, horse cart No.30  for trips around Myotit.  He has a handicapped child and badly needs customers.

He will also drive you to Old Pagan.

They will order you a simple lunch.  In the evenings do not miss the:
