KAILI: RURAL CHINESE VISITS
Wu Min, a Miao girl who lives in Kaili, is your T&C friend in Guizhou Province. She has several years of experience organizing tailor made visits to the villages in South East Guizhou.
Wu Min is expanding her work as an interpreter, and has set up a small enterprise: Rural Chinese Visits: The Miao and Dong Villages in Guizhou. She knows these rural villages intimately, and arranges for villagers to accommodate guests for meals and for overnight stays. These villages are very rural, no mod. cons., but unbelievably beautiful and unspoilt: a unique chance to experience the countryside which is fast disappearing. Travelling with her by local bus or shared taxis is a wonderful way to enter into village life.
About Rural Chinese Visits
Wu Min will meet you at either Guiyang airport, or at Guilin airport in Guanxi Province.
From Guiyan suggested visits are:
A four night trip:
-
Kaili (nights one and four), south to the Miao village of Langde ( nights two and three) with trips to Nanhua, Jidao and Xijiang. Return to Kaili for night four.
-
Kaili (nights one and four), Taijiang (nights two and three) with a trip to the hamlet of Fanpai.
-
Kaili (nights one and five), Langde (night two) and Leishan (nights three and four ) with day trips to small hamlets.
Alternatively you could go to the Miao villages north of Kaili:
-
Matang and Chongan (2 nights)
-
On to Shibing and up the river to Zhenyuan (2 nights), train back to Kaili (6 nights in all).
From Guilin visits can be arranged to Yangshou, south of Guilin on the Li river: Touristy but fun, just as beautiful as Guuilin but not such a tourist trap.
On to the incredible Dragon's Back rice terracing near Longshen, the Dong hillside villages around Zhiangxiao, up the beautiful Dulin river valley and hills to Kaili, and the Miao villages around Kaili. Visitors can then fly back from Guiyang.
Transport & Accommodation
Most trips are done by bus. Travellers must note that travel in rural China is subject to many unforeseeable changes and although every care will be taken to adhere to the schedule, there may have to be minor changes made during the trip.
Local car hire can be arranged. Hikes and bicycle trips can be taken from the villages. Trips can be organized to coincide with festivals, markets and other interests stated by the client.
Overnight accommodation in villages and hamlets is either in small guest houses or in villagers’homes. In the cities hotel accomodation can be arranged, but this will curtail the number of villages that can be visited within a given period.
